1 Peter 1:17-25

17 And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you 21 who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. 

22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for

       “All flesh is like grass 

and all its glory like the flower of grass. 

       The grass withers, 

and the flower falls, 

25    but the word of the Lord remains forever.” 

And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

Purify your soul

Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance

2 Tim 2:22 Flee evil desires pursue righteousness

Phil 4:8 think about what is pure, 

1 Thess 5:4 learn to control your body in a way that is holy and honorable

We are all like sponges. We soak up what we are exposed to. It’s like a wiping over dirty areas. The dirtier the area the more you must rinse out the sponge otherwise you will just be spreading around the filth. Keep it PG

Precious blood, born again, For the sake of you

Psalm 51:7-12

7  Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; 

wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 

8    Let me hear joy and gladness; 

let the bones that you have broken rejoice. 

9    Hide your face from my sins, 

and blot out all my iniquities. 

10    Create in me a clean heart, O God, 

and renew a right spirit within me. 

11    Cast me not away from your presence, 

and take not your Holy Spirit from me. 

12    Restore to me the joy of your salvation, 

and uphold me with a willing spirit.

Coming into God’s presence keeps us from being dirtier. Jesus is the cleaning solution that will clean the area. But if we keep adding more dirty stuff then Jesus will only clean us  up after we confess, repent, and search him out. 

Love one another from a pure heart

God gives the extra motivation to help us keep pursuing purity for our souls through the relationships he has put us in. Everyone we love deserves to be loved by a pure heart. Pursuing purity prevents us from planting bad seeds in their hearts. Others have been burned by bad love and need love from a pure heart to show them what God’s love is like. 

Applications

Reevaluate everything you consume.

Limit anything that could grow into something unhealthy

Think how it could affect others you love

Create more time to connect with Jesus

Avoid hiding, confess, share, embrace, repent
