Betraying Jesus
Minister Joaquin
Luke 22:47-53
47 While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” 49 And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. 51 But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? 53 When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”
Who would betray Jesus?
Judas was stealing from the funds given to Jesus instead of giving it all to the poor.
Sold him out for 30 pieces of silver
Matthew 27:9 Then was fulfilled what had been spoken of him by the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel”
Why did Judas need to betray Jesus?
People often feel that God didn’t show himself enough to people and that it’s unfair that they will be punished for it in the future. God is trying to prove to everyone that it doesn’t make a difference how much they have seen. Satan rebels, Adam & Eve in the garden, Israelites leaving Egypt, Ananias & Sapphira lie to the new church
Are you betraying Jesus?
Violating trust- not doing what is expected of you
Infidelity- cheating on Jesus with other idols
Disloyalty- not building Jesus’ kingdom
Breaking promises- falling back into sins
Hebrews 6:4-6
4 For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.
Ephesians 4:29-32
29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. 32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
